55th Reunion Recap

RESOUNDING SUCCESS! Yes, that would be the best description of our now concluded 55th reunion.

There were 68 folks registered for this reunion which was the largest attendance (except for the 50th) that we have experienced for at least the last four reunions. This includes 43 classmates and associates (see list). We’re not just getting older - we’re getting better!

Your committee (see list) could not be more pleased than we are with all the great compliments we’ve heard at the event, and subsequently. But the truth is; what made this event was the excellent turnout by classmates, spouses and friends. There is nothing that feels better than walking into a room filled with old friends.

Although most of us arrived about noon in the rain and drizzle of what was really lousy weather, by mid afternoon the sun was shining to reveal the spectacular color of the Fall foliage, which must have been natures way to celebrate our great gathering.

Because of the weather our classmate picture had to be taken inside instead of the hoped for backdrop of the falls and ducks.

After a brief welcome message by Curt Wickman and Jackie Kraskouskas, Curt offered grace asking for a blessing on the event, those present, and the meal.

The next four hours included an excellent meal served by the Old Mill staff but was filled mostly by the renewal of many old friendships. We had some classmates attending their first reunion, or the first in many, many years. We had attendees travel from many states including Florida, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, New Hampshire, and Maine. Many folks hadn’t seen one another for thirty, forty, and yes, even fifty-five years.

To the amazement of most present, the photographer returned in not much over an hour with a 8 1/2 x 11 inch copy of the class photo for each classmate. Also, to the amazement of many the committee was able to pay for the photos with the moneys already received for the event.

Class President Tom Leivitt asked for a moment of silence while he respectfully read the names of the 49 treasured classmates (see In Memoriam) that are known to have passed away through the years.

We then made a enthusiastic (well sort of) attempt to sing the GHS Alma Mater followed by an even more energetic version of “Glory to Gardner”.

The committee purchased some attractive Fall themed centerpieces for each table that were awarded to the two persons at each table with birthdays closest to October 11th.

The sharing of stories and memories continued until 4 pm when many goodbyes and hugs were shared, not knowing when we would again see many of these special folks.
